Art Martha. Screen and street stalker Art Martha observes art and artists noting this and that.
Blink. Quick drawings of interesting characters I see as I roam around. The rules are simple: I never look at the paper as I draw, only the subject; and the subjects must never know. I give each character a fictional name allowing sitters to remain anonymous. Most drawings are completed in under ten seconds, resulting in amusing impressions of strangers.
Doodler. Doodles and drawings found in magazines or scrawled on pasted-up posters on city streets form the basis of this sometimes cheeky section.
Flipfactor. At a time when the death knell is being tolled for the future of magazines, Flipfactor rejoices in the highs and lows of magazine publishing, trusting they'll be around for many years to come. My undying love for magazines started at school. When classmates were busy studying, I was cutting and pasting together collages for my infamous school diaries. Chuckles and giggles ensued as diaries passed from hand to hand, resulting in many of them being confiscated.
Found. Drawings, photographs, objects and other ephemera is connected only by chance with finds made on the street or in books or wherever.
Glossy. Magazine covers are another obsession. Glossy celebrates their form, from the stunning to the quirky, the glamourous to the just plain funny.
Mixtape. Mixtape is my interpretation of great music regardless of whether it is up-to, or out-of, date. I link music to long family car journeys where my parent's favourites blared out: Elvis Presley, Tammy Wynette, Charley Pride, Bill Haley & The Comets, The Big Bopper and a host of others who were all played over and over. And over. While mum bopped along to Abba and Culture Club, there was no way Nina Hagen, New Order or Visage were spun.
Mulch. Mulch equals miscellanea. If it doesn't fit anywhere else, then it'll be here. Terrific and sometimes tawdry television, peculiar people and other observations from the street.
Newsflash. Information about current projects and ventures.
Pie Report. Pies are as Australian as a food staple can be, and every so often I get a hankering for one. Perhaps I'm embracing my inner bogan. Regardless, pies are a great quick lunch when time is not on your side. But pie buying can be a risky pursuit: Will the pie be too hot and burn the roof of your mouth? How long has it been sitting in the pie warmer? For a few minutes or hours on end? Will it be sturdy or collapse under the weight of a piping hot dripping filling? The Pie Report aims to give good advice for pie eaters everywhere.
Pinboard. Studio experiments for all to see.
Roaming. I love to be off on a jaunt, whether it’s into the countryside, the next city, interstate or across the world. All the while adding to the photographic compendium that is Turnstile’s Shootin’ Gallery (coming soon). Roaming adds a tale or two to the scene.
Thirteen. Partly inspired by Don DeLillo's Underworld and an interest in people's unfounded fears of the number thirteen, Thirteen photographically records the first instance of the number 13 as I go about my daily business.
